CHENNAI: Stoutly denying that aid had not reached people affected by cyclone Thane in time, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday told the State Assembly that “damage caused by the cyclone was such as never seen before in the history of Tamil Nadu, but the relief and restoration works being undertaken by the AIADMK government are also of the same order.”The CM pointed out that “in the absence of Central government’s sufficient aid, the State government, with its own funds, has done an extraordinary job in record time. What could be achieved in six or seven months has been done in just one month.“Leaders in neighbouring Puducherry are hailing relief works by the TN government,” she said, responding to the charge of Deputy Leader of Opposition S Ramachandran that relief did not reach people in time.
