Vendor stabbed to death

A roadside fast-food vendor was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow flower vendor over a trivial issue at Darghabazaar here on Saturday. According to reports, the victim Ramesh Chandra Sahoo of Kathgada Sahi under Purighat Police limits, who ran a fast-food joint at Dharmasala Road under Darghabazaar, entered into a quarrel with a local flower vendor Lokanath Mohapatra following collision of his trolley with the latter’s mini-truck. With tempers rising, Mohapatra allegedly drew out a knife and stabbed Sahoo in the chest. Sahoo was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. The incident sparked off tension in the area with the business community staging a ‘rasta roko’ and damaging the mini-truck in the process. Normalcy returned following deployment of a posse of police in the region. A case has been registered in the connection. Mohapatra is yet to be apprehended.
