Thanks to the desi-ishtyle movies, we have managed to connect to our roots of care-free days. We bring you the list of top colleges and institutions across India where many prominent Bollywood films were shot.

What started as a spark between colleges and Bollywood ended in building an eternal romance between them. Often, films that have been shot at various colleges and portrayed its ‘adda’ either made us think about of what our college life would be or reminiscent about our good old college days.

IIM, Ahmedabad

The most interesting Punjabi-Tamil Brahmin love affair of Krish and Ananya in ‘2 States’ started blooming in the lecture theatre of IIM, Ahemdabad. From the hostel rooms to the canteen and the corridors of IIM, this one film had it all!

St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai

This college has probably featured in more advertisements than Shah Rukh Khan ever has. Being a hub of ad-shooting, this made few exceptions for movies like ‘Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’.

Sophia College for Women, Mumbai

‘Ishq Vishk’, a sugar coated movie portrayed its first love scenes at the Sophia College for Women, Mumbai. This has been one of the most-loved locations for shoot. Movies like Murder, ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ didn’t fail to show glimpses of this college!

Hansraj College, Delhi University

Remember the Bittoo Sharma-Shruti Kakkar bread pakora scene that was shot in ‘Band Bajaa Baraat’? Or the modern story of Dev, Paro and Chanda in ‘Dev-D’? That’s Hansraj College for you. Capturing it’s essence in entirety, a feature film ‘Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande’ also did justice to its title.

Wilson College, Mumbai

The story of 3 friends Sameer, Aakash and Sid in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ that set the mark of friendship in minds and hearts of the young and the old, was shot at Wilson College.

Hindu College, Delhi University

Known for it’s bindaas attitude and a rocking hostel life, this DU college witnessed the rebellious craziness of Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Rockstar’, the over-the-top story of ‘Dil, Dosti Etc’. With the boys and girls in kurtas of almost same sizes, the movies depicted essence of Hindu College in the truest form.

IP University, Delhi

‘No One Killed Jessica’, based on the true story of Jessica Lal Murder case was shot at the Dwarka Campus of IP University, Delhi.

Miranda House, Delhi University

An all girls college in reality, featured two guys entering the college on horses. With the dreams of Choocha-Hunny-Zafar-Lali coinciding, ‘Fukrey’ seized the essence in totality. Not to forget, the CBI office that was shown in ‘Special 26’ was the main hall of this college.

HR College for Commerce and Economics, Mumbai

No matter how boring the name sounds, this has been a host to the iconic film ‘Wake Up ! Sid’. There must have been something at these locations that led Sid to wake up in his reel life.

St. Stephens, Delhi University

A college that has lived an independent existence for ages now made headlines for all the wrong reasons. However, this college has had its Bolly-dates too. Scenes in ‘Rockstar’ showed glimpses of this college!

Forest Research Institute, Dehradun

More than half a dozen movies have been filmed here. To name a few, ‘Krishna Cottage, ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’, ‘Paan Singh Tomar’, ‘Student Of The Year’. This is the perfect example of why not to judge a book by its cover. (FYI, the television commercial of Bournvita was also shot here)

Kirori Mal College, Delhi University

This college has witnessed the coming together and breaking apart of the duo Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor while they were shooting for the film ‘Milenge Milenge’ in it’s campus. ‘Do Dooni Chaar’, a family based story portrayed the young lads sitting it the college canteen.

Grant Medical College, Mumbai

This college has been successful in providing MBBS degrees to the real and the fictional doctors. Thanks to this location, we are bestowed with Dr. Munna from ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’.

Indian Military Academy, Dehradun

The institute that has blessed us with our fearless soldiers did not take a backseat in Bolly-world too. The movie that gave a new dimension to the word ‘Lakshya’ was shot here. Perfectly describing the disciplined culture of the academy, ‘Lakshya’ did wonders even at the box office back then!

Symbiosis International University, Pune

Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor starring ‘Bodyguard’ was shot at Symbiosis International University in 40 days. As much as the movie confused the audience, the location succeeded in catching the attention of its viewers.

IIM, Bangalore

A dream-come-true kinda college for most of the science students became a host to ‘3 Idiots’ that enlightened people about what knowledge actually is. The perfect blend of friendship, knowledge and life ‘3 Idiots’ proved to be a cherry on the cake for this institute.
