Kalki 2898 AD Trailer Sparks Dune And Mad Max Fury Comparisons, Know Why
Kalki 2898 AD trailer has generated quite a buzz on the internet, with fans speculating multiple theories about its characters already.

The trailer of Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD has reminded netizens of acclaimed Hollywood movies Dune and Mad Max Fury Road. From ton of explosions in the desert to presence of a womb and a post-apocalyptic world, netizens have drawn several parallels between Kalki 2898 AD and the other two movies. The netizens have particularly pointed out that Amitabh Bachchan’s character Ashwatthama is quite similar to that of Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max Fury Road.

Kalki 2898 AD trailer shows Amitabh’s Ashwatthama fiercely protect Deepika’s unborn child, just like how Furiosa fights against Mad Max Fury Road’s main villain, Immortan Joe, and tries to save very pregnant Splendid Angharad (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) and Joe’s other wives in the middle of the night. Both characters defy the odds to protect their people in the respective movies. Another similarity that the two characters bore is that Charlize Theron is a handicapped soldier in the movie and Amitabh, too, wears bandages to cover his wounds in Kalki 2898 AD.

Additionally, the arid desert aesthetic, epic explosions and battle scenes also reminded internet of Dune, which starred Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet. While Kalki 2898 AD is inspired by Hindu mythology, it contains similar elements that will draw in fans of Dune. The action, the scale, and the costume design do bear some resemblance to the Denis Villeneuve directorial.

However, fans are all praise for Nag Ashwin’s sincere efforts to try his hand at something so new and so grand. One user wrote, “Trailer of Kalki felt like mixture of Dune, Mad Max, Star Wars, etc. The only positive from the trailer is Bachchan Sahab. Hopefully Nag Ashwin will prove us wrong.” Another one said, “World-class is a small word, Kalki is going to be the path breaking movie of Indian cinema.”

In a recent interview with Deadline, Prabhas, revealed that Kalki 2898 AD is “made for international audiences.” He stated, “The whole film is made for international audiences. That’s why it’s the highest budget, and we’ve got the best actors in the country.” Discussing his title as a pan-Indian star, he added, “We were hearing for the first time people calling me ‘pan-Indian’. That doesn’t really affect me, but it’s a good feeling to think that people around the country like me now.”
