Priya Prakash Varrier Opens Up On Manikya Malaraya Poovi Controversy, Says It is 'Unwanted'
Soon after a 30-minute long clip of Manikya Malaraya Poovi song went viral on social media, a complaint was filed against its lyrics allegedly for hurting Muslim sentiments.

Priya Prakash Varrier has opened up about the controversy surrounding her recently released song Manikya Malaraya Poovi, which has also made her an overnight internet sensation. Soon after a 30-minute clip of the Malayalam track, where Varrier exchanges a few cute glances with a boy, went viral on social media, a complaint was filed against the song's lyrics allegedly for hurting Muslim sentiments.

The complaint was filed at Falaknuma Police station in Hyderabad. The complainant said nothing against the actors but stated that the song's lyrics were against Muslim sentiments and were offensive to the followers of Prophet Mohammad.

When Varrier was asked about her take on the controversy, she told Times Now, “It is actually unnecessary. And unwanted. It is a Muslim traditional song and I don’t think there is any kind of an element in the, in it which would, call it a insult, to anyone."

Manikya Malaraya Poovi is the song from an upcoming film Oru Adaar Love which revolves around the love story of two students and warmth of friendship. The teaser of the film was released recently, suggesting a nostalgic ride through the corridors of school and young-age romance.
