'I'm Very Grateful': Singer Sachin Pilgaonkar On Singing Ramayan Ki Chaupaiyan Ram Siya Ram
Pilgaonkar initially entered the devotional genre, lending his voice to "Ramayan Ki Chaupaiyan Ram Siya Ram”.

Sachin Pilgaonkar, after nearly five decades, is revisiting history. Having originally lip-synced to “Mangal Bhawan Amangal Haari” in the 1975 film Geet Gaata Chal, he has now re-recorded the song for the Ram Temple consecration ceremony. A seasoned actor with a repertoire of over 200 songs, Pilgaonkar initially entered the devotional genre, lending his voice to “Ramayan Ki Chaupaiyan Ram Siya Ram.”

“It’s a divine opportunity for me. Some verses were filmed on me in my debut lead role, and people associate these verses with me, I believe. That’s why the creators thought I would be suitable for this. I don’t know if I’m a proficient singer, but I manage, I think. I would be delighted if this song further deepens devotees’ connection with Lord Ram. It carries a sweet sentiment,” he expresses about the devotional piece, featured in the Shri Ram Bhakti Utsav series on Shemaroo Bhakti.

While the original was sung by Jaspal Singh with music and lyrics by Ravindra Jain, this rendition is composed by Deepak Pandit. He adds that it was overwhelming to sing, as such opportunities “come to you and can’t be pursued.”

The 66-year-old actor-filmmaker said, “I can’t wait to visit Ayodhya, but I’ll go there when Ram ji beckons. Nothing can happen without His wish. I am eagerly awaiting the call. For now, I am content that I can connect with Him through this song, which is significant for me. I take pride in being an Indian and look forward to the ceremony. I’ll be singing the song at home during the ceremony. I will close my eyes and mentally seek the divine presence of Ram ji,” he concludes.

Sachin Pilgaonkar, commonly referred to as Sachin, is a multifaceted Indian figure in acting, directing, producing, writing, and singing in both Marathi and Hindi cinema. Particularly noted for his contributions to Marathi cinema, he has helmed and starred in numerous Marathi films during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Sachin has garnered recognition with accolades, including two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards in the Marathi category.
