Karan Johar Makes SHOCKING Confession About Doing Movies PR: 'We Send Our Own People To Praise...'

Karan Johar is one of the most successful directors and producers in Bollywood today. Having been in the industry for more than 25 years, he has delivered many hit films, including Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani last year. As such, he was part of a round-table conversation recently where he spoke about the lengths that producers go to to ensure that their films become hits.

Speaking to Galatta Plus, Karan said, “Many times we also as PR send our own people and say praise the film and all, that happens. Sometimes you are struggling to make a mark. Obviously, many times you want to put out good videos. When you are vulnerable, you will say critic critic critic but then you dig out those critics who have liked the film and make that big poster with five stars, four stars, three stars and two stars. Some of these critics haven’t heard of themselves also. Where we have found those people, we do that also.”

“As a producer, you will make every last-ditch attempt to make your film be heard. While I may have a big critique on criticism, I’m also riding on their backs when they praise the film. I’m telling you, I’m a Gemini so maybe I can come across as a double-edged sword at times or two-faced, but I’m very well doing that also as a producer,” Karan added.

Karan said during the interview that he reads reviews of films that he directs or produces. He said that while he has great respect for certain critics, he has a problem when people start writing their own screenplays. He said, “This is our screenplay. You can critique it but why are you writing your screenplay? ‘It should’ve been like this.’ But it’s not like this.”

Karan added that he also has a problem when reviewers ask people to not watch certain films. “Your job as a reviewer is to give us your criticism or your praise.  The choice to watch the film has to be left to the audience,” the filmmaker said.
