Eugene Levy, the Emmy award-winning actor known for his role in Schitt’s Creek, is set to join the cast of Only Murders in the Building for its upcoming fourth season. This marks Levy’s first regular television role since the conclusion of Schitt’s Creek in 2020. While the details of Levy’s character have not been revealed, Variety reports that he will have a recurring role in the series and play a significant part in the season’s storyline. Levy is the latest addition to the cast of season four, following Molly Shannon and Eva Longoria, who will also have recurring roles in the series.
Shannon will reportedly portray a high-powered Los Angeles businesswoman who becomes involved in the murder investigation, while Longoria’s character will also play a crucial role in the season’s plot. The new cast members will join the original characters of Selena Gomez’s Mabel, Martin Short’s Oliver, and Steve Martin’s Charles, as well as Meryl Streep’s Loretta Durkin, who was introduced in season three and will reprise her role in the upcoming season.
The third season of Only Murders in the Building ended with a shocking twist, as Sazz Pataki, played by Jane Lynch, was shot in Charles’ apartment. Throughout the season, Sazz had been trying to communicate something important to Charles, hinting at a secret or piece of information she had. As she dies, she attempts to write a message to Charles using her own blood, suggesting that she had known something significant.
Co-showrunner John Hoffman spoke about the finale to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “It feels very in her character to send a message. She’s been trying to do it to Charles throughout the season. She’s hinting to him in episode five that she’s picking up some ham radio chatter, certainly, right when she arrives in the finale, she’s saying, ‘Can I grab you for a few minutes? It’s a little sensitive.’ So, there’s something on her mind and something she may know but to be found out.”
Levy, a renowned figure in comedy, rose to prominence as a writer and cast member on the sketch comedy series SCTV. He garnered four Emmy Awards, two for his contributions to SCTV and two for his role in Schitt’s Creek, a series he co-created with his son Daniel, where he portrayed Johnny Rose. Levy’s talent extends to film, notably in Christopher Guest’s movies such as Best in Show and A Mighty Wind, as well as the American Pie film series. Additionally, he hosts the Apple TV+ travel show The Reluctant Traveler.
