“England Test captain, all-rounder Ben Stokes has made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness,” the CSK stated.
The defending champions displayed their support for Stokes for his decision as he will be leading England in the five-match Test series before the IPL 2024 and then will play the T20 World Cup in June will take place right after the cash-rich league.
“The Chennai Super Kings management is supportive of Ben in his decision to manage his workload with England playing a 5-Test series in India before the IPL and then the T20 World Cup in June 2024,” the franchise further added.
Recently, Stokes came out of retirement for England’s ODI World Cup title defence in India but it didn’t help them much as they finished seventh on the points table with three wins and six losses in the tournament. However, he was one of the saving graces for England in the poor campaign as he scored 304 runs in 6 matches at an average of 50.66, which includes one century and two half-centuries.
Meanwhile, Stokes admitted England failed to keep “our foot on the throat” of opponents as the team’s disappointing World Cup campaign ended with a 93-run win over Pakistan.
The defending champions finished in seventh place in the 10-nation tournament, propped up by rock-bottom Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
“People will be frustrated and a bit flabbergasted at the way things have gone,” Stokes, who made 84 on Saturday, told Sky Sports.
“If anyone knows why things have gone how they have gone, they would be a genius. We’ve struggled to put in consistent performances. We’ve not kept our foot on the throat,” he added.
