A speeding SUV mowed down a balloon seller at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, and then flipped over twice as it swerved and hit the road divider. In a video caught on CCTV cameras installed nearby, which has gone viral, the Mahindra Scorpio is seen hitting the man killing him on the spot.

According to reports, the incident took place late on October 23 at a market in Meerut’s Abu Lane. The balloon seller was identified as Bhanu from Unnao, while the SUV’s driver, a businessman, was identified as Anubhav Goyal. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and was pulled out of the car by a mob and handed over to the police.
In the video, a crowd soon assembles as the SUV stops after hitting the divider even as the other passengers inside escape from the windows of the damaged car. A huge quantity of alcohol was reportedly recovered from the vehicle.
The driver reportedly told police that all the other passengers were also under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place. Eyewitnesses have alleged that the police initially released the man without taking any action but once the video of the accident went viral, there was massive uproar following which the accused, who was admitted to a hospital in Muzaffarnagar, was arrested.
Top police officials had to intervene following which the case was registered under sections pertaining to culpable homicide.
