Congress leader Rahul Gandhi finally answered why he has been walking in a T-shirt in North India’s chilly winter. He said the media kept asking him if he felt cold but never asked the same question to a farmer, a labourer, or even poor children. His Bharat Jodo Yatra reached the national capital on Saturday, where the temperature has steadily dropped over the past two days. In fact, Delhi recorded the season’s lowest temperature on Friday.
“They (journalists) keep asking me how I do not feel cold,” he was quoted as saying in a report published by NDTV, adding, “but they do not ask the farmer, the worker, poor children, this question.” He also talked about those who could not afford essentials such as warm clothes.
“I have walked 2,800 km, but I believe that is not a big deal. Farmers walk so much every day; as do farm labourers, factory workers – all of India, in fact,” he was quoted as saying in the report, while addressing a gathering near the Red Fort.
The senior leader has been walking through many seasons across multiple states and union territories. Many have wondered why the former Congress president is walking in a T-shirt in this biting cold. Kanhaiya Kumar, however, answered that question for us as the Bharat Jodo Yatra entered and marched through Delhi on Saturday.
In an interview with NDTV, Kanhaiya Kumar, who has been a part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra with Gandhi for over 3,000 km, said when a person faced “so many attacks, the body becomes proof”.

Thousands of supporters walked behind Rahul Gandhi as he led the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Badarpur border to Ashram with the entire stretch decked up in the Tricolour, balloons and banners of the leader.
The yatra entered Delhi on Saturday morning with scores of people from Haryana and Delhi joining it at the Badarpur border amid raising of “Bharat Jodo” (unite India) and ‘Rahul Gandhi Zindabad’ slogans. With the beating of drums and patriotic songs playing in the background, the enthusiasm of the Congress yatris was at its peak. Waving the Tricolour, thousands of party activists walked behind Gandhi.
Early in the morning, Congress workers had lined up along the route and showered flower petals on yatris. Security from Badarpur to Ashram was beefed up, with barricades erected and teams of police personnel deployed at multiple points.

Congress workers have set up camps at various places on the route of the yatra, where song and dance programmes have been organised. Party supporters were seen chanting slogans like ‘Nafrat chhorho, Bharat jodo” (quit hatred, unite India)’.
A large number of youth supporters were also seen, who claimed to be protesting against “unemployment” by showing solidarity with the yatra. People were also seen lining up to have a glimpse of the procession. Kanhaiya also said the BJP was scared of Bharat Jodo Yatra as it was getting a massive response from people.
“They are scared of this yatra, that’s the reason they are coming up with such excuses. Rahul Gandhi ji is spreading love and peace in the country,” Kumar said, alleging that the BJP was trying to stop the yatra.
A large number of workers from Delhi Congress, led by unit chief Anil Chaudhary, welcomed Gandhi and the yatris at the Delhi border in Badarpur early in the morning. The yatra entered Delhi from the Faridabad side in Haryana.
Senior party leaders, including former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kumari Selja, Randeep Surjewala, Shaktisinh Gohil and others, accompanied Gandhi.
