Captain Gopinath on why he quit the Aam Aadmi Party
"I always admired Kejriwal and his courage with which he wanted to change Indian politics. But some of his recent actions are not good," Gopinath said.

Bangalore: Low cost civil aviation pioneer in India and the founder of Air Deccan Captain GR Gopinath, who has quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), feels that the party has lost the focus and vision. After quitting the party, speaking to CNN-IBN he said that there was no point in continuing his association with the AAP.

"I had increasing differences with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the recent months. I am known for my frank views. I have earlier expressed my differences with the AAP in my blogs including ibnlive.com's blogs. I always admired Arvind Kejriwal. His courage and the way he wanted to change Indian politics. But, some of his recent actions are not good. The last straw was his decision to defy a court order and refusal to pay his bail bond. It is not acceptable. How can he do this? I though I should quit after all these developments. I wish them well. I am finding it difficult to continue my association with the AAP," he said.

Gopinath also called Kejriwal's reaction to his recent arrest as disapointing. "The tipping point was Kejriwal courting arrest in the BJP leader Nitin Gadkari's defamation case. Not giving a bail bond is not the right thing. Comparing it to Anna Hazare's refusal to sign bail bond in 2011 during India Against Corruption (IAC) movement is wrong. Anna Hazare did not sign bail bond because the situation was entirely different. Anna Hazare's arrest was illegal," he added.

However, he also said that he admired Kejriwal's stand. "I hoped that he would change. I have now realized that, it is not happening. I wish them well. It was a good, courageous movement. But, things have changed later," a disapointed Gopinath said.

Here is the text of his resignation letter:

"Dear, Prithvi, hope you are well. This is to inform you that I would like to resign from the membership of the Aam Admi Party with immediate effect because increasing difference with the party leadership and its ways. I have expressed most of my views also on the media including today.

I wish the party well in its future endeavors.

Warmly
