Panaji: The Goa government on Sunday terminated the services of the director of the water project AM Wachasundar to ensure fair probe in the Louis Berger bribery scam.
Wachasundar was the project director of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the company which was part of the consortium behind the water project.
Wachasundar had been the first person to be questioned by the Goa crime branch after an FIR was filed in the case. The crime branch started the investigation into the Louis Berger bribery scam over allegations of kickbacks for a water development project sanctioned under the Congress government in Goa in 2010.
Wachasundar served as a chief engineer in the Public Works Department in Goa and was later appointed as the JICA's project director.
US-based company Louis Berger has admitted to having bribed Indian officials, including a Goa minister to win a consultancy water project in the State in 2010 under the JICA initiative.
