Patna: Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party is claiming to be on a strong wicket in Bihar, the party has not been able to fully control the rebellion over candidates list for Lok Sabha elections. The party is contesting on just 30 seats in Bihar after giving away seven to Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party and Upendra Kushwaha's Rashtriya Lok Samata Party.
BJP leadership has already announced candidates for 27 seats in Bihar but Buxar, Supaul and Jhanjharpur are still awaiting for their turn. Several leaders have put forward their candidatures from these three seats and the leadership is keen not to aggravate the rebellion within its ranks by announcing candidates in a hurry.
Senior Bihar BJP leaders Sushil Kumar Modi, Nand Kishore Yadav and Mangal Pandey are in Delhi to finalise the candidates in consultation with the top leadership.
BJP MLA and former Bihar health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey is most likely to be given the go ahead to contest from Buxar after he had made his displeasure very clear after being denied a ticket from his preferred seat of Bhagalpur and over the way some turncoats were accommodated in the party and given ticket to contest Lok Sabha elections within days of joining the party.
A Brahmin, Choubey was eyeing Bhagalpur but the BJP decided to put up Shahnawaz Hussain from the seat much to the former's chagrin. He has been persuaded to try his luck from Buxar which has a large number of Brahmin voters.
In Supaul, the BJP is toying up with the idea of putting up sitting JDU MP Vishwamohan Kumar, who has been denied a ticket by his party and is planning to join the saffron brigade. But two other leaders - former BJP MLC Kameshwar Chaupal and the party's district chief Narendra Narayan Yadav - are also in the running. Chaupal's claim to fame has been that he is the person who laid the foundation stone for Ram Mandir at Ayodhya in 1989.
Jhanjharpur is proving to be a bit tricky as several BJP leaders have thrown their hat in the ring.
