Live: 19 Bills passed in Monsoon Session, says Kamal Nath
Sources say Union Ministers P Chidambaram, Kamal Nath forced Kapil Sibal to apologise.

New Delhi: 12:53 pm: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath says 19 Bills have been passed in this session, including Food Security Bill, Land Bill and Pensions Bill.

12:31 pm: Law Minister Kapil Sibal apologises to the Opposition in the Upper House over hasty passage of the Judges Accountability Bill. He says, "I am deeply anguished. I apologise to the Opposition for hasty passage of the Judges Accountability Bill." Sources say Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath forced Sibal to apologise as the government was worried that the BJP would stall the Appropriation Bill.

11:14 am: The Rajya Sabha is adjourned for 15 minutes after uproar over the Judicial Accountability Bill. He says, "The Law Minister should apologise to the House for misleading it on the Judges Accountability Bill. The bill was not ready and yet he pressed for it to be passed."

11:04 am: BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad questions the government over the hurry in bringing the Judicial Accountability Bill in the Rajya Sabha. He says, "We wanted the Bill to be sent to the Standing Committe and the government said it was urgent and yet it was not taken in the LOk Sabha."

The Monsoon Session of Parliament was extended by a day and the Rajya Sabha is meeting today for the last day of business this session. On Friday, it passed the Pension Bill that aims to create a regulator for the sector and allows at least 26 per cent FDI.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Bill, 2011, was passed in the Rajya Sabha with 115 MPs voting in favour and 25 against including members form Left parties and TMC. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on September 4.
