Mumbai: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Tuesday said it was “ridiculous” to suggest that party chief Uddhav Thackeray and his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray, leader of the Shiv Sena, should patch up.
“There is no question of Shiv Sena and MNS coming together. The idea is ridiculous and if it was initiated by the Shiv Sainiks, Sena supremo Bal Thackeray should make them understand," said MNS spokesperson Shirish Parkar in a magazine Mi Maharashtracha, Maharashtra Maza.
Parkar, who edits the magazine, was referring to the 'Thackeray Jodo' campaign started by some Sena activists to unite Raj and Uddhav before the Mumbai Municipal Corporation polls in 2012.
Parkar said: "people like Chandrika Keniya, Ram Jethmalani, Pritish Nandy and Videocon's Rajkumar Dhoot were elected with the support of Sena but they were never seen holding the party's saffron flag. Is this not a breach of trust of Marathi manoos?"
Sena came into power after raising the Hindutva issue and keeping aside the Marathi agenda, he claimed. Sena has been in power in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation for 22 years but it had failed to check the influx of Bangladeshis, Parkar said.
He also took potshots at the 'Lai-Chana', 'Mi Mumbaikar' and 'Uttar Pradesh Din' campaigns of Sena, saying "were these festivals started to restrict the influx of outsiders."
Praising Raj Thackeray for having a "clear agenda on Marathi issue", Parkar said "Raj always says his language, caste and religion is Marathi.
