Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that the party’s fight was to save Constitution and the INDIA bloc gave a vision of pro-poor and pro-production to the country.
Addressing his first press conference after results of Lok Sabha elections were declared, Gandhi said that the people of the country do not want Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to run India.
He alleged that the institutions have been misused by the BJP government and people don’t want them to return to power.
“You just took the first step towards saving Constitution. Our fight was to save constitution,” he said.
On post-poll alliance with JDU and TDP, the Gandhi scion said, “We are going to have a meeting with our INDIA partners tomorrow. These will be raised and answered there. We will decide tomorrow. We will take action on whatever.”
Gandhi thanked voters of Wayanad and Raebareli for making him victorious in both seats. “I cannot remain on both seats but I have not decided yet,” he said.
“UP ne kamaal karke dikha diya aaj”, the Congress said while apparently referring to big gains of the INDIA bloc in Uttar Pradesh where the BJP won 62 Lok Sabha seats in 2019 polls. He also thanked his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for party’s performance in UP.

BJP’s Moral Defeat: Kharge
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday on said that the party led a positive campaign on issues around inflation, unemployment and farmers and people gave befitting answers to BJP’s rumours around Congress manifesto.
Kharge said that Congress accepts the people’s mandate with humility and called it a “moral” defeat of the BJP. He said the BJP sought vote in one person’s name.
Kharge further said, “Till we don’t talk to our alliance partners and the new partners who are going to ally with them, we will talk to them as well and see how we can make majority. If I say all the strategies here, Modiji will become clever.”
The NDA is leading on more than 290 seats but the BJP is short of the majority mark. However, the INDIA bloc’s tally is at 231 seats as the counting of votes is still underway.
Defying exit poll predictions, the INDIA bloc put up a splendid performance in the Hindi belt and the southern states to bring down the NDA’s number under 300.
