Jaipur: Rajasthan former minister of state for food and civil supplies Babulal Nagar, accused in a rape case, continues to evade police. When a forensic team visited his residence to take him for a medical examination, he was missing.

His office said he has gone on a pilgrimage to an unknown location. The minister had resigned last week following the rape allegations. The victim has said she has been facing threats since the day she filed complaint.

Rajasthan's CID-Crime Branch had begun probing charges of rape and assault levelled against Babulal, official sources said.

The woman's statement was recorded and her clothes, which she wore on the day of the alleged crime, were recovered and sent for forensic examination, sources had said. An additional SP (name not disclosed) of CID-Crime Branch has been given the task to probe the case, sources had added.

Babulal, was booked on the directions of Metropolitan Magistrate where the survivor had filed a complaint alleging that the police was not registering her FIR. After registering the case under various sections of the IPC including 376, police referred the case to CB-CID as it involved an MLA of the present Assembly.

The minister had allegedly called her to his house on September 11 on the pretext of giving a job and later sexually assaulted her. Two days later, she gave her statement before the Chief Judicial magistrate.
