There are times when we want to use a particular emoji in response to a message, but end up disappointed on not finding that right face or gesture. Worry not, a new set of emoji are coming soon to your phone to fill some gaps in the emoji tray.
Unicode Consortium, which standardises the way computers represent text in all languages including emoji characters, has accepted Version 9.0 of the Unicode Standard. This includes 72 new emoji characters.
These 72 new emoji include 7 faces, 7 people, 7 hand gestures, 14 plants/animals, 18 food emoji, 12 sports emoji, and a few others. We bring you the top 15 of the lot.
1. Rolling on the floor laughing (ROFL)
You will soon have a right emoji for situations that lead to an extreme amount of laughter.
2. Drooling Face
We often get desirous about things including food, clothes, and other items. What else could be better than a drooling face to express our desire in a person, object or concept?
3. Shrug
Once the Shrug emoji makes way to your phone, you know what to send next time you are asked questions that you have no clue about (or don't want to answer).
4. Facepalm
There is no limit to situations your friends or cousins leave you embarrassed or frustrated - both in person, in public, or online. A facepalm emoji will soon be your answer to such people or situations
5. Selfie
Selfies are everywhere. Sit in a cafe, go to a vacation or commute on public transport, you will find selfies being taken all around. As selfie has become an important part of our culture, it was high time for a selfie emoji.
6. Clinking Glasses
It's similar to the Clinking Beer Mugs emoji, but the two emoji are not to be used alternatively. It may vary according to situations and people you are sending it to.
7. Lying Face
A face with a long nose is an appropriate reply for situations when you find someone is lying to you.
8. Man Dancing
The male equivalent of the female dancer is finally here. Men must be happy.
9. Hand With Index and Middle Fingers Crossed
Expressing that you are waiting for a favourable outcome will soon be just a tap away.
10. Black Heart
I assume that this emoji is going to be used more than the Red heart now. It can be used to express disappointment, sorrow, or a form of dark humour.
11. Call Me Hand
Ever since we were introduced to the telephone, we have been using this gesture (that resembles a traditional phone) to suggest "call me". And now it is also an emoji.
12. Sneezing Face
Being sick is one thing and being in a bad state because of a runny nose and non-stop sneezing another. With this emoji, you can now be a little precise in expressing your health condition.
13. Man in Tuxedo
The emoji tray will finally have a groom to accompany the bride.
14. Owl
Unable to sleep at night? Send this to your friend and she will understand your insomnia.
15. Green Salad
Not interested in a dinner invite because you are on a diet or simply detoxing? Send this bowl of healthy salad to express that you are not interested. A nicer way to say no.
These new emoji should soon appear on smartphones and other devices that support emoji.
