Apple, at its event, on March 21 made some major announcements and unveiled a couple of products including the iPhone SE, which is an upgrade to its older iPhone 5s, and a smaller 9.7-inch iPad Pro. Here are some key highlights from the event.
1. Apple shows off its Liam robot that helps in de-constructing iPhones for recycling.
2. Apple has dropped the prices of the Watch. The prices of Apple's smartwatch now start at $299, down from $349.
3. Apple announces the new 4-inch iPhone. And it is called the iPhone SE. Apple says, "it is the most powerful 4-inch iPhone ever". It looks (almost) exactly like the iPhone 5s.
4. The new iPhone SE has the latest A9 chipset that powers the flagship iPhone 6s, and therefore the iPhone SE is said to deliver the performance as powerful as the 6s. The perfomance of the iPhone SE is claimed to deliver performance 3 times more than the iPhone 5s.
5. Other features of the iPhone SE include 12 megapixel iSight camera with 4K video support, iOS 9.3, and Apple Pay.
6. The iPhone SE (16 GB) is priced at $399, while the 64 GB model costs $499.
7. The phone will be up for pre-order starting March 24 in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK, US Virgin Islands and the US. It will go on sale from March 31.
8. Apple says it will introduce the iPhone SE in India and several other countries in early April.
9. Apple unveils the new smaller 9.7-inch iPad Pro, the second member in the iPad Pro family. It weighs one pound.
10. The new iPad Pro is 40 per cent less reflective than the iPad Air 2.
11. Specifications of the newest iPad Pro include the 64-bit A9X processor, M9 co-processor, 12 megapixel iSight camera with 4K video support, iOS 9.3, and 4-speaker audio system.
12. The new iPad Pro, for the first time, will be available in Rose Gold as well. Other colour options include Silver, Gold, and Space Grey.
13. The Apple 9.7-inch iPad Pro will go on sale at $599 for 32 GB, $749 for 128 GB and the first-ever 256 GB model at $899. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro (256 GB variant) will be available for $1099. The prices for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, however, start at $799.
14. Pre-bookings for the iPad Pro begin March 24. It will go on sale from March 31.
15. CEO Tim Cook signs off announcing that Apple will be moving into its new spaceship-like campus in 2017.
