Move Over Baby Hippo, Adorable Penguin Pesto Is The Internet's New Obsession
Despite being just nine months old, Pesto, the baby penguin, weighs 21 kg, which is more than the combined weight of his parents.

A baby hippo named Moo Deng has captured hearts online for weeks, but now there’s a new contender. Meet Pesto, an adorable baby penguin born at Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, who is turning heads with his cute appearance and playful behaviour. Despite being just nine months old, Pesto weighs 21 kg, which is more than the combined weight of his parents, Hudson and Tango, and is taller than an average penguin. At such a tender age, he eats nearly 25 fish per day.

Meanwhile, Pesto has earned the title of being the largest chick ever born at Melbourne’s aquarium, which instantly made him a star attraction among visitors and internet users. Recently, the aquarium held a gender reveal party for Pesto and discovered that this charming penguin is a boy.

As per the aquarium’s website, “Since hatching earlier this year, Pesto has quickly captured hearts globally, not just for his adorable antics, but for his impressive size. At just nine months old, Pesto tips the scales at a whopping 21 kg, thanks to his hearty appetite of 25 fish a day. Pesto’s impressive weight is due to a number of factors. Firstly, his biological dad is our biggest and oldest penguin. Secondly, he’s had amazing parents raising him. So, the combination of good genes and good parents explains his current weight, but he will lose a lot of this when he fledges (develops his adult feathers.)”

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “He’s a fluffy king.”

Another shared, “This is the only non cringy gender reveal ever.”

“Pesto is zesto. Too cute. I want to squeeze him allll day. Lol,” a comment read.

Another wrote, “Adorable fluffy Angel and a spunky ‘tude’ too, when he poked his friend. Sooo cute.”

An individual shared, “The fact he’s just a baby and he’s that size really begs the question on the level of evolution for his species.”

One more added, “We need a collab between Pesto and Moo Deng, the crossover would overtake Infinity Wars.”

As per Associated Press, the General Manager of Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, Claire Burrell, mentioned that Pesto has brought a lot of happiness to everyone at the aquarium and people worldwide. They are excited to share his upcoming experiences, which will include learning to fly and swimming lessons.

According to his caregivers, Pesto has begun to lose his brown baby feathers, which will be replaced by the classic black and white feathers of adult penguins. They expect him to weigh around 15 kgs. The aquarium’s education supervisor, Jacinta Early, explained that Pesto will shed his cute baby fluff over the next month or two.
