A student from Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, has stirred controversy after a video circulated online showing him slapping his teacher not once, but twice. The incident has been described as “inappropriate and unsettling” by school authorities, according to The North Carolina Beat. Identified as Aquavious ‘Quavo’ Hickman, the student is now facing serious charges, including communicating threats and assaulting a government official. In the disturbing footage, Hickman is seen hitting the educator during a minor argument. Shockingly, students could be heard laughing in the background. Reportedly, a juvenile judge issued a custody order and Hickman will be detained in a juvenile facility as legal proceedings progress.

In the video, the student can be seen slapping the teacher during an argument, but she remains calm and claims the assault doesn’t affect her. The student then proceeds to ask if the teacher wants another blow, to which the teacher calmly declines. However, the situation takes a shocking turn as the student hits the teacher once more, causing her glasses to fall off. Later, the student verbally attacks the teacher and could be heard saying, “The f**k’s wrong with you, what you gonna do, still sit in that chair because you a bi**h. Ain’t nobody even coming, you got slapped. Bi**h go back to teaching.”

In a statement shared on Facebook, the police said, “The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) charged a juvenile with Assault on a Government Official and Communicating Threats. On Monday, April 15, 2024, at Parkland High School, a student was filmed assaulting an educator. April 16, 2024 Juvenile Justice issued a Secure Custody Order for one (1) count of Communicating Threats and two (2) counts Misdemeanour Assault. No further information will be released as the involved individual is a juvenile.”

Sheriff Bobby F Kimbrough Jr strongly condemned the incident, stating that it was unacceptable and shocking. He highlighted the importance of respecting and protecting educators, as they play an important role in shaping us. He extended prayers to the students who witnessed the incident and the teacher involved, wishing for their recovery. Kimbrough also thanked those who supported them including Mr Jim O’Neill from the District Attorney’s office, for his help in the process.

Meanwhile, as per Winston Salem Journal, school superintendent Tricia McManus suggests that the student should be expelled from the Parkland High School. She believes that teachers must feel secure while carrying out their responsibilities. Former school educator Tripp Jeffers is deeply shocked and describes the incident as extremely disturbing. He highlighted that no educator should ever face such treatment and praised the assaulted teacher, by calling her “wonderful” educator.
