Streetwear has grown from humble origins to become a prominent force in the worldwide fashion scene. The emergence of streetwear influencers has contributed to the mainstreaming of a once-niche look. Many street-style icons have captured the attention of the public, but the man in question is not a youngster. The 71-year-old social media star Alojz Abram, who is well-known for wearing Stussy hoodies, Supreme hats and other similar apparel, is proof that it doesn’t discriminate based on age. Just take a brief look through Alojz’s social media account to see why he’s been labelled the most fashionable grandpa on the internet.
German national Alojz has a superb sense of street style which includes everything from track coats to tinted sunglasses, bucket hats and thrasher sweatshirts, which puts him at the top of every Instagram feed.
His 23-year-old grandson is his photographer, capturing his grandfather’s evolving style. And it all started with this first photo, in which Alojz was decked up in a sweatshirt, red shoes and a bum bag.
Since then, their sneaker game has skyrocketed, making them the ultimate masters of style.
He even makes it really easy to wear the leopard print style.
According to Complex, Alojz became interested in streetwear around a year ago after noticing the outfits his grandson, Jannik Diefenbach, sported. He told the portal that he researched the brands his grandson loved on Facebook and Googled them.
Jannik Stated, “He gets some weird looks from other older people, but sometimes I get personal messages on Instagram saying that I’ve got the coolest grandpa in the world and that they love him.”
Although the retired electrician was surprised by the amount of attention he received, he is pleased with the outcome. Jannik told news24.com that Gramps always possessed a keen sense of style.
“Gramps was born and raised in Slovenia and during his teenage years he pulled off some cool looks.” Jannik responded, “At least that’s what he tells me.”
After being requested to put on clothes by his grandson in 2016, Gramps began dressing in streetwear. Gramps’ account, which Jannik was managing, gained thousands of followers as the photographs became popular and were shortly reposted by clothing-related pages. “At first Gramps didn’t know what happened because he didn’t understand social media and the concept of likes and followers,” he recalled.
However, as the weeks passed and the months went by, people began to identify him on the streets. They even insisted on having photos taken with him. It was then that he discovered he was somewhat of an online celebrity.
Today, the retiree has over a million Instagram followers. His rise to prominence on the internet inspired him to launch the Approved by Gramps apparel brand, which consists of hats, T-shirts and jewellery.
Although Jannik and his grandfather have always been close, he claimed that their shared interest has strengthened their relationship. He added, “Spending time with Gramps is always fun, he’s the coolest grandpa I could ever imagine.”
