A couple in Agra approached a Family Counselling Centre when their dispute over lipstick escalated into a physical fight. The couple, who had been married for two years, told the counsellor at the Family Counselling Centre that the wife had asked her husband to buy lipstick for her but got angry when he bought her lipstick worth Rs 30. The wife complained that the lipstick was too expensive and said that he should have bought her lipstick worth just Rs 10. In his defence, the husband said that there is no lipstick cheaper than Rs 30. This seemingly benign disagreement soon escalated and the couple indulged in a physical fight. After this, the wife left her husband’s house and moved back to her maternal home.
As per News18 Hindi, Satish Khirwar, the counsellor at Agra’s Family Counseling Centre, said that the women belonged to the Etmadpur police station area while the man was from Mathura. They got married two years ago. Khirwar added that while he was counselling the couple, the wife said that the Rs 30 lipstick was too expensive and she was concerned about the household’s finances. Khirwar said that he urged the couple to understand each other’s point of view. The husband then agreed to buy his wife the lipstick of her choice. After counselling, the couple reached a compromise and reunited.
This is not the only incident where make-up products played a role in pushing a couple to the brink of divorce. Back in February, a woman – also from Agra – sought a divorce after an argument over her mother-in-law using her make-up products. She claimed that her mother-in-law would routinely use her make-up products without her permission.
Reports suggest that initially, the woman had politely told her mother-in-law to not use her products but she continued. The woman then confronted her mother-in-law about using her make-up and it turned into a huge argument. Her husband stepped into the fight but took his mother’s side. She alleged that he “threw her and her sister out of the house”. The woman explained she and her sister got married to two brothers in the same family about eight months ago.
Since this argument, both sisters have been living in their maternal home. Counsellor Amit Gaur told the media that the woman and her mother-in-law were set to receive counselling at Agra’s Family Counseling Centre, with the hope of resolving the issue.
