One of YouTube’s prominent creators, Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as Mr Beast, has finally decided to post one of his videos on Elon Musk-owned X. The move is seen as a win for Musk’s ongoing efforts to attract major content creators and influencers to the platform. The billionaire Tesla CEO has been engaging in discussions with Donaldson for years, expressing his interest in enhancing X’s competitiveness with YouTube. Soon after Donaldson uploaded the video titled ‘$1 Car vs $100,000,000 Car,’ Musk was quick to repost his video on his official handle. Meanwhile, sharing the video, Jimmy expressed curiosity about the ad revenue video will make on the microblogging platform, compared to YouTube.
After Mr Beast shared the video on X, his tweet garnered nearly 36 million views within 12 hours. The popular YouTuber, with 25.3 million followers on X, even promised to his audience that he would reveal the ad revenue in the coming days. The content creator wrote, “I’m curious how much ad revenue a video on X would make so I’m reuploading this to test it. Will share an ad rev next week.” While musk resharing the video wrote, “First MrBeast video posted directly on X.”

Meanwhile, a user raised a question and wondered whether they made a side deal or if it was a genuine test.
Was there a separate “side deal” put in place or is this a true test?— Matt Allen (@investmattallen) January 16, 2024
As per the platform, “X is now a video-first platform, with video being part of more than 8 in 10 user sessions, and we’ve seen views increase almost 30% year over year. Plus, now more than 100 million people watch vertical video on X every day, and advertisers can now connect with users efficiently using the industry’s best brand safety protections.”
Unlike YouTube, where eligibility for monetisation requires 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of viewing in the past year, X users need to subscribe to either Premium at $8 per month or Premium+ at $16 per month to qualify for a share of Twitter’s ad revenue. Meanwhile, as per Forbes, Mr Beast earned $54 million in 2021 and is YouTube’s highest paid content creator. He rose to fame in 2018 for his philanthropic activities, after he gave a major amount of money to lesser known Twitch streamers and YouTubers.
