Volkswagen Tiguan to Launch Before Passat in India, Expected in First Half of 2017
Volkswagen will launch the Tiguan and Passat by mid-2017.

Volkswagen India has announced its line-up for the year 2017 and it seems like the German automaker is set to bring the global products into the Indian market this year with the upcoming Tiguan and the Passat. The product strategy goes back to the announcement made by Volkswagen (VW) during the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, following which, the Ameo and Polo GTI was launched last year.

We at News18 Auto had reported earlier that the Passat will be launched in India in mid-2017. Volkswagen will launch the Tiguan before the launch of the Passat, which means, that the Tiguan launch could very well happen in the next couple of months.

Commenting on the 2017 launch announcement, Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “2017 marks 10 years for Volkswagen in India and at this opportune moment, we reiterate our commitment with a strong product line-up aimed at fostering our growth momentum in the country. With the successful launch of the Ameo and introduction of GTI recently, Volkswagen marked its presence in the Compact Sedan and Performance car segment. With exciting new products across the segments, we are now ready to enter the SUV segment with Tiguan and luxury segment with the all-new Passat. The slew of launches will ensure every car buyer finds a car to meet their requirements at our showrooms.”

The Tiguan will be based on the MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform and as per the company, it is already making waves in Europe where the second-generation Tiguan is the undisputed best-selling SUV in its class. The body proportions of the Volkswagen SUV are sporty and it will be powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine which will come mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

The Passat, on the other hand, will be having its second run in the Indian market. Based on the MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform, Passat will be powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine which will be mated to a 6-speed DSG gearbox. For the first time in India, Volkswagen Passat will offer 9 airbags providing additional safety for the passengers. Also Read: Volkswagen Ameo Review
