New Delhi: Despite the 2G spectrum scam and several others, India's richest man and the chairman of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Mukesh Ambani has taken an optimistic view of the situation saying India is fighting graft in a mature manner.
In an interview to Morgan Stanley, Mukesh Ambani said, "I do not agree that things have turned grim for India. We should not really deprecate ourselves. We have started on the journey of systemic reforms to reduce corruption."
The Reliance Industries Chairman also spoke out on his company's future plans in the energy sector. He said that the government should play the role of a referee and not a player in deals.
The comment came just hours after the country's Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India in his report said that the government had favoured Mukesh Ambani's RIL and two other oil exploring companies.
Speaking about the energy sector specifically which is also witnessing its share of ups and downs, Ambani said there is a need for disruptive policies from the government. He said, "As we go ahead, the government has to be more of an umpire or the tournament organiser as opposed to getting involved in the game."
