The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is just around the corner and much like every year, a plethora of Indian actors and artists will be jetting off to the French Riviera to attend the film gala. While it will see some usual names like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aditi Rao Hydari gracing the festival, some new faces will also be marking their red-carpet debut this year. And one among them is actor Ayush Mehra.
Thrilled about representing the vibrant actors’ community of India at Cannes 2024, Ayush exclusively tells News18 Showsha that it will be nothing short of ‘La La Land’ for him. “Yes, this is my first time attending the red carpet at Cannes and I’m extremely excited. I’m not at all nervous because it’s a film festival and I feel it’s where I belong. I’m an actor and it’s so inspiring to be in the presence of so many renowned personalities I’ve grown up watching all my life. It’s going to be like I’m in La La Land,” he says.
Indian cinema will once again be making a splash at the festival. In the spotlight, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light will be vying for the prestigious Palme d’Or. It marks a significant milestone as an Indian title graces the Competition section of the Cannes Film Festival Official Selection after three decades. Furthermore, Shyam Benegal’s Manthan will be presented in the Classics section.
So, which is that one film that Ayush is looking forward to catching at the gala? “I’m going to try watching a lot of films while I’m there. Kinds Of Kindness and Bird are definitely on my list. Francis Ford Coppola is also showcasing his film (Megalopolis) and I cannot miss that, I want to try my best to get into that screening,” shares the Call My Agent: Bollywood and Please Find Attached actor.
He’s also quick to add that he’s all set to lend support to All We Imagine As Light while at the film festival. “I’m a huge fan of George Miller and his movie Mad Max: Fury Road. I must have watched that movie at least 50 times. Furiousa is being premiered there which again I cannot wait to watch. The same goes for Payal Kapadia’s film, which is in the main competition. It will be representing Indian cinema at the prestigious film festival,” he tells us.
Cannes Film Festival, over the years, has also grabbed a lot of eyeballs for being a mecca of fashion. And for his first red carpet appearance, Ayush has collaborated with a new-age stylist, Kudrat Anand. However, he remains tight-lipped about his look. “Well, it’s a surprise and you all will have to wait. I take my fashion game very seriously and I shall see you at the red carpet looking my dapper best!” he remarks.
