Advani eyeing eighth World billiards title
Advani is seeded fifth behind Mike Russell, Dhruv Sitwala, David Causier and Geet Sethi.

Bangalore: Pankaj Advani, the 26-year-old winner of seven World titles, hopes to add another to his kitty as he sets off for the World professional billiards championship at Leeds, in Britain, beginning on October 24.

Advani is seeded fifth behind defending champion Mike Russell (England, 1), Dhruv Sitwala (India, 2), David Causier (England, 3) and Geet Sethi (India, 4).

In addition to intense Billiards training sessions at the Karnataka State Billiards Association here, Advani has worked extensively to improve his fitness levels.

Advani said: "Generally, I have two training sessions a day. I start early in the morning, train for a couple of hours and then go back in the evening for a second session of billiards. On days when I have gym sessions in the morning, I play in the evenings.

"In addition to training, I have to pay close attention to resting my body, my eyes especially since sharp vision is an integral factor that can play a decisive role in tournaments."

India has a strong representation in the competition. Besides the seeded Indians, Rupesh Shah (6), Saurav Kothari (8), Balachandra Bhaskar, Ashok Shandilya, Alok Kumar, Manish Jain and Devendra Joshi are also in the fray.
