BHUBANESWAR: A major stretch of Janpath was transformed into a fair with people lining up on each side of the road along with the vendors to witness the immersion procession. Devotees thronged the Sahid Nagar area since the afternoon and occupied vantage positions to view the procession. The traffic police had cordoned off part of the Janpath for the procession. Nineteen puja committees, including Sahid Nagar, Bomikhal, Vani Vihar Chakk, Palasuni and Satya Nagar, assembled under the Bhubaneswar Bhasani Utsav Samiti at the Shahid Nagar Puja ground. The order of the movement of the vehicles was decided through lottery. Most of the idols were immersed in the Kuakhai river. The whole area was brimming with the old and young ones alike. The vendors, cashing in on this occasion, put up stalls along the Janpath. With the start of the procession, Janpath transformed into a medley of dance and music with the committee members and public dancing to loud music. There were also other performers who were brought in specifically to add sparkle to the procession like Punjabi dhol and girls performing balancing act. The procession passed through Master Canteen and reached Rajmahal, from there it moved towards Kuakhai. Traffic was regulated to ensure a smooth procession. The roads were blocked phase by phase to allow the traffic to move. The Rasulagarh Puja Committee brought in horses and camels from Puri specially to accompany the procession. The Nayapalli, Palaspalli, Baramunda Puja and many other puja committees gathered for the immersion at Ganga Nagar. From there all the vehicles went towards Unit 8 and then towards Puri Canal. They also organised a similar procession. They immersed their idols in the Daya river. The procession started very late and went into the wee hours of the night.
