Fugitive rebels will be hunted down, says Bangladesh

Dhaka: Bangladesh now look ahead to hunt down the hand behind the bloody massacre of the top brass of the country's border guards in Dhaka.

A case has been filed, specific soldiers have been identified.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government has also decided to deploy the army across the country to arrest the fugitive rebels of Bangladesh Rifles and seize missing firearms.

It's no longer being called a mutiny. Dhaka says it's a cold blooded, pre-planned massacre of more than 100 army officers with the intention of destabilising the new democratic government in Bangladesh.

All fingers are being pointed towards one person - a shipping magnete, who is also an opposition MP and an alleged arms smuggler with known ISI links.

He was also MP and advisor to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Intelligence sources in Dhaka say that one Subedar Major Zafar, arrested after the violence ended inside the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters, has named the shipping magnet as one of the main instigators who paid 1 crore Bangladeshi Taka three days before the massacre along with the top leadership of Jammat-e-Islami.

Even Sheikh Hasina's government is now talking about evidence linking people outside the country's border guards for the bloody violence.

Mohammad Farooq Khan, Bangladesh’s Commerce Minister confirmed that there were SMSes which were sent from outside.

Murder charges have now been filed against 1,000 personnel of BDR.

Even as more than 1,000 soldiers from the paramilitary force regrouped anxiously outside their barracks in Dhaka on Sunday, following a government order.

It is expected that most of these soldiers who fled from the headquarters are the start of the apparent revolt last Wednesday will be investigated to explain why they left, though many say they ran away out of fear during the violence.

Mohammad Murad, one such BDR soldier said, “I appeal to the Sheikh Hasina and to the chief of army staff to punish those who did such heinous crimes and also demand a fair investigation of people like me who are innocent. We should be exempt."

Sources now indicate that a small group of 20-25 non-commissioned troopers of the BDR who forced others to revolt and take part in the mindless killings of the officers drawn from the regular army. Six of them has already been identified and they will face charges of treason.
