Land-For-Job Scam: Delhi Court Grants Bail To Lalu Yadav's Wife Rabri Devi, 2 Daughters

A Delhi Court granted bail to former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav’s wife Rabri Devi and his two daughters, Misa Bharati and Hema Yadav, in the alleged land-for-job scam.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne granted relief to the three after the ED claimed that it needed time to file arguments on their regular bail application.

The Court, in its order noted that since the accused are not arrested “consciously” by the Enforcement Directorate, “they are not required for custody and there is no need of their arrest”.

The court also permitted the federal agency to file a reply in the matter.

The Delhi Court on January 27, had summoned Rabri Devi — also a former Bihar CM — and her daughters along with others after taking cognizance of an ED chargesheet against them. Special Judge Vishal had directed them to appear before the court saying that there were sufficient grounds to proceed in the matter.

The judge also issued a production warrant against businessman Amit Katyal, who is currently in judicial custody in the case. Katyal was arrested in the case by the anti-corruption agency in November last year.

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav was questioned by the ED officials in Patna for over nine hours on January 29.

The central agency had issued summons to Yadav on January 19 after he failed to appear before it on the earlier dates.

The agency alleged that Yadav took land from job aspirants in return for employment with the Railways when was the Union Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009, contravening the recruitment procedures.
