KARWAR: Sunilkumar, a security guard at the Karwar Naval Base, ended his life on Tuesday by shooting himself with his gun, police said. Hailing from Orissa, he was serving in a patrolling boat of the Navy. He committed suicide by firing at himself while on duty in the boat on Tuesday evening, the PSI of the rural police station investing the case said. Three others working in the kitchen of the boat rushed to the spot after hearing the gun shot only to find Sunilkumar bleeding excessively. He was rushed to the naval hospital INS Patanjali, where he was declared dead.Shivkumar told Express that the reason for Sunilkumar committing suicide was not yet known. Even the naval officials were unable to give any explanation. He said his mobile phone will be examined. Sudhir Sahu, the brother of the deceased and Ravindranath Sahu the uncle of the deceased, arrived here on Wednesday to take possession of the body.They told reporters at the district hospital, where the post mortem was conducted, that Sunilkumar had no problems and was not mentally disturbed. They demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
