Police await post-mortem report on missing scientist
Police want to know if Mahalingam's death was accidental or a suicide.

Bangalore: The post mortem on the body of the dead scientist Lokanath Mahalingam is under way.

Police await the report as they believe it could provide important leads into the case and help them ascertain the cause of the scientist's death.

The body of 47-year-old Lokanath Mahalingam was fished out of the Kali river late on Saturday night and was later identified by his wife.

Mahalingam, a scientific officer at the plant, had gone missing during a morning walk on June 8. Divers from the Naval base at Karwar joined the operations on Saturday after the search by CISF and local police personnel bore no results.

The Superintendent of Police, Karwar, Raman Gupta said that Mahalingam's wife has identified his body but the cause of his death is yet to be known.

While investigations are on, there are many unanswered questions.

  • Was Mahalingam's death accidental or was it a case of suicide?
  • Police had also been probing if he was attacked by a wild animal, as the Kaiga plant is surrounded by a dense jungle.
  • Mahalingam reportedly had some disputes with his family. Did that have any bearing on his death?
  • Mahalingam's relatives say, he always took his cell phone when he went for jogging.
  • But on the day he went missing, he did not. The question remains, why?

What's your reaction?
