KOCHI: The city police has proposed modernisation of the control room which will ensure better handling of the cases in the city. The proposal is likely to get a nod within a month. One the proposal is realised, Kochi will have police monitoring every nook and corner of the city from the control room and can be expected to be seen chasing speedy cars in even speedier vehicles.According to the Kochi police sources, a proposal has been made to bring the entire city under the surveillance of the police in the control room. “Under the proposal, around 300 high definition cameras, which can be operated in the night time will be placed across the city. Every traffic signal and street in the city is to have a camera, so as to monitor each one roaming in the city. For this, the police in the control room will be trained by computer experts,” sources said.A control room official said that the department will also prepare separate squad that will reach the crime scene within minutes. “A squad will be prepared so that they can reach the crime scene within minutes,” official said. The control room officials will also be provided with fast moving bikes and four wheelers to operate quickly. The new vehicles will be given so that officials can reach the scene quickly and catch culprits moving in the high speed vehicles.Control room assistant commissioner, K S Vijayapan said that the room requires modernisation and the it will be upgraded within a year. “The modernisation of the control room will take place within a year. We are looking forward to make control room service match the standards of the police in the western countries. The city will be under the watchful eyes of the police after the modernisation,” K S Vijayapan said.
