KOCHI: At a time when admission to self-financing colleges are creating a lot of confusion two more examples of communication gap have come to light.Deserving candidates are not given their due, especially if they happen to be economically backward like the case of Riya Johnson who was promised the MBBS course at Malabar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Modakkallur. in Kozhikode. Riya who was ranked 1865 in the state entrance examination was doing BSc Nursing in Vellore and wanted to ensure her admission for MBBS before  quitting her course in Vellore. She got an SMS on September 23 at 7 pm asking her to remit the fee of Rs. 138000 at the notified SBT branch before September 24 noon and go through the procedures. To facilitate admission, the college    offices    functioned on Sunday. September 25. When she went for the procedures. she was asked to submit her original certificates and TC which was not communicated to her earlier. She appealed to the authorities that she would submit them on Monday but they would not hear of it and denied her admission. This was the fifth allotment. The allotment memo of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations dated 23 September 2011 also warns that candidates who receive allotment in this phase should ioin the institution. Those who do not and cause the government seat to lapse will be liable to pay liquidated damages and debarred from entrance examinations for the next two years. While they made a request for submitting the required documents the next day, the authorities threw her application and spoke rudely, said Kuruvila Mathews, a member of the Kerala Council of Churches which offered financial help to the girl.Sheethal Jose of Wavanad, who got admitted to a government veterinary college, wanted an MBBS admission and she was rejected as she could not produce her original certificate. The girls have moved court. “We can’t offer admission to students who are already doing courses elsewhere unless they give us the TC and original certificates on the prescribed date. We can’t extend the cut-off date.” said Anil Kumar, managing director of the college. On whether they couldn’t give a grace period, as the procedures were on Sunday, he said it was up to the Entrance Commissioner to send them the details of the admission in time.
