Ahmedabad: Five years after she was killed, shocking details have emerged of what happened to Sohrabuddin Sheikh's wife Kauser Bi days before her death. A former ATS constable has told the CBI Kauser Bi was raped by Gujarat police before being killed.
What really happened five years ago when Kauser Bi was killed after her husband Sohrabuddin during the fake encounter case which has implicated 16 people? It now seems that the worst is really true - that the Gujarat police raped her before killing her. That's what Assistant Sub Inspector Ravindra Makwana, who was a constable with the ATS, has said in a recorded statement to the CBI.
Makwana said that he overheard ATS police officers Ajay and Satpal Sharma telling that PSI Balkrishna Choubey raped her at a farm house.
Moreover, advocate Mukul Sinha, acting for Sohrabuddin's family, said that based on phone call records it is possible to conclude Kauser Bi was killed, not at a farmhouse as has been claimed, but at the ATS office itself.
Mukul Sinha, Sohrabuddin's advocate said, “Now you connect up everything and it appears the lady was in the ATS office and they tried to negotiate with her. She did not agree and so they killed her in the ATS office."
Witness statements show that around 5 pm on that fateful day when she was killed, DG Vanzara allegedly asked one of his juniors to purchase firewood. Based on the context of the day's events, this has been seen as evidence that the firewood was meant for Kauser Bi's cremation. While events surrounding Sohrabuddin's murder are more or less established, Kauser Bi's death is shrouded in uncertainty. Her relatives hope this latest testimony will set the facts right.
However, it remains to be seen if this statement holds good in a court of law, as there is no evidence pointing to what happened to Kausar Bi after the abduction.
