THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Instead of being a display of Left unity, the just-concluded party conferences of the CPM and CPI ended up creating a clear-cut dent in the LDF. The state secretaries of CPM Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI C K Chandrappan on Sunday continued their war of words against each other.“The comment (by Chandrappan) that the CPM state conference was organised by an event management company is not at all decent. Such comments can only be described as mean. Chandrappan had reminded us about the use of civilised language. But along with it, the language to convey political views should be a bit more polished,” Pinarayi said.On Chandrappan remarks during the conference on bringing back allies in to the LDF fold, Pinarayi said the CPM was not keen on any tie-up with UDF partners.Chandrappan hit back reiterating that the use of language should be in a civilised manner, as the people of the state are educated and wise. “The CPM should learn lessons from the defeat in Bengal,” he said.Chandrappan said Pinarayi’s stand on strengthening LDF was in sharp contrast to that of CPM general secretary Prakash Karat who had stated that parties wishing to join the Front can be brought back.He said such differences in opinions had led to the division of the party in 1964. “Such tendencies should be avoided, as it would only lead to both parting ways again,” he said.
