The Great Indian Kapil Show: Heeramandi’s Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha Reveal Giving Retakes For Many Scenes
Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Shaikh and Aditi Rao Hydari recalled how much Sanjay Leela Bhansali loved perfection.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his OTT debut with a web series Heeramandi. The show has been getting mixed responses from the audience. Well, recently on The Great Indian Kapil Show, the Heeramandi cast including Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Aditi Rao Hydari revealed that they have given reshot of many scenes because the director loves perfection.

During the show, Richa Chadha revealed how the director instructed her to take 8 spins in 20kg lehenga and then asked her to stop at a specific mark while shedding a tear from her left eye. Everyone was shocked to realize how Sanjay Leela Bhansali concentrates on minute details. Sharing another instance, Richa revealed that in one of the scenes she had flowers on her head, and as the flowers were wilting, Sanjay Leela Bhansali got the flowers changed many times.

Sonakshi Sinha said, “Sometimes the lamp would snuff out, he took a retake. Sometimes the curtain wasn’t properly creased, so a retake for that. Sometimes, the drape of the dress wasn’t right, so again a retake.”

Sanjeeda Shaikh also added, “Even the chair is acting. It has character. Even in the curtain in the background has to work. He (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) will make the props to act.”

Aditi Rao Hydari said there were 200 people on set and SLB had an eye on every detail due to which they got the fantastic final product (the web show).

Sharmin Segal also shared that the director once saw a thread sticking out from the costume in a closeup shot. She revealed how he interrupted the scene and asked to cut the thread.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi was released on Netflix earlier this month. It soon became a talking point among audiences for its historical inaccuracies and casting choices. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his niece, Sharmin Segal, who essays the role of Alamzeb in the series, especially bore the brunt of heavy critique by the viewers.
