BHUBANESWAR: The State Council for Educational Research and Training  (SCERT), which has detected fake certificates being submitted by candidates for admission to B.Ed colleges across the State, has requested the Crime Branch to investigate  the source of the documents. After unearthing at least seven cases during the current academic session, the Council approached the School and Mass Education Department seeking a probe by the CB. The Department on Monday asked the SCERT to hand over the cases to the CB. There are 14 B.Ed colleges in the State with about 1,400 seats. However, the SCERT which conducts the admission noticed that candidates submitted fake degree certificates this year. In one case, a candidate had submitted a mark sheet from a college in Puri with a 98 per cent score in Sanskrit Honours. The college, in question, does not offer Sanskrit as an Honours subject, the SCERT found out after verifying with the authorities. SCERT Director and President of Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, Satyakam Mishra, who detected the fake certificates, said, the principals of all B.Ed colleges were instructed to report all doubtful cases to the notice of the Council. This year, the central selection committee of SCERT had adopted a stand of not offering admission to candidates whose certificates appeared forged. Those who had submitted genuine documents returned to the Council seeking admission whereas the others did not return. In Bhanjanagar, close to a dozen candidates turned up for admission at the local college but their certificates were found to be forged. The authorities made them submit undertakings and refused admission immediately. However, the prevalence of the trend and continuing circulation of the forged certificates has prompted the SCERT to seek a solution to the problem. “We wanted the source of such counterfeit documents to be traced so that such incidents do not recur and the Government has asked us to hand over the case to CB,” Mishra told this paper on Monday.
