New Delhi: As pressure builds on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) ahead of the Supreme Court's deadline to file an affidavit in the coal scam, CNN-IBN has learnt that the agency will be submitting its original status report in the apex court.
Sources, however, said that while the CBI will admit to the fact that there was a meeting with the Law Minister, there were no PMO officials at the meeting.
After the Indian Express report on the issue sparked controversy, Congress sources on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had not asked for any intervention in the CBI affidavit on the coal scam.
Meanwhile, the Congress has also rejected demands for the resignation of Law Minister Ashwani Kumar over the matter. The party also downplayed reports of his meeting the Prime Minister after the issue came to light.
"There is no question of resignation," party spokesperson Rashid Alvi said when asked whether the Law Minister could be asked to resign following the news reports that claimed the contents of CBI's status report on the coal mines allocation probe were shared with Ashwani Kumar and officials of the Prime Minister's Office.
