WB chit fund scam: Assam minister denies charges
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has hinted at a CBI probe into the matter. He, however, has ruled out any resignations pending enquiry.

New Delhi: Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Thursday denied all allegations against him in the West Bengal chit fund scam and said that he was ready for a probe. Sharma had been named by Saradha group promoter Sudipta Sen in his 18-page letter to the CBI dated April 6. In his letter, Sudipta had mentioned Sharma as having received money from him.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has hinted at a CBI probe into the matter. He, however, has ruled out any resignations pending enquiry. "We will order a CBI probe into the chit fund scam soon, we are discussing the issue. There is no question of the minister, Biswa Sarma, resigning until there is some concrete proof against him. This is a serious issue and the government will take all measures to protect the interests of the investors," Gogoi said.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Sudipta's letter mentioned the Assam Health and Education minister and a former DGP. Some former Saradha employees have also alleged involvement of a former DGP, Shankar Baruah, in the scam.
