One of the highly talented actresses in the Southern film industry, Priya Bhavani Shankar often grabs headlines for her exemplary acting chops. Recently, she is in the limelight after she gave a befitting reply to social media trolls. The star has worked extensively in Tamil and Telugu film industries and has been on a spree to belt out one film after another. Despite being a successful actress in the industry, she had her share of trolling and negativity due to the underwhelming performances of her films.
Recently, Priya Bhavani Shankar shared that after the negative reviews of Kamal Hassan’s Indian 2, the actress had to face cyber-bullying and trolling. She further claimed that a section of the internet blamed her for the failure of the action-packed drama. In an interview with Galatta, she expressed her hurt and shared that it is not fair to blame one person for the failure of a film.
She spoke about how signing Indian 2 was a huge deal since it was her first big film and led to many more opportunities. Priya Bhavani Shankar said, “Unfortunately, people offer you films only if you are part of big films. They consider you a heroine. You need to have a duet with the hero. It’s there and I am not complaining. It decides the market and everything around it.” She further stated that nobody would sign up for a film if the actor knew beforehand that it wouldn’t be successful. She said, “It is a huge disappointment when a film fails, for everybody involved. No matter how big a star you might be, it’s a big disappointment.”
The actress added that if she is offered Indian 2 now and knows it would flop, she would still sign up for it. She reiterated her point by asking to show on female lead in the industry who would refuse a Shankar-Kamal Hassan film with a meaty role in it. She does not regret doing the film but she mentioned that she would “say sorry to the audience for not being able to satisfy them.”
Priya Bhavani Shankar further hit back that it is not because of one person that the film succeeds or fails. She gave examples of Thalapathy Vijay and Rajinikanth and said that if a film’s success depended on just one person, then all their projects would have been blockbusters, which is not the case. The Meyadha Maan actress clarified that there are many factors for the success of a film including teamwork.
The actress has worked in hits like Meyadha Maan, Kadaikutty Singam, Monster, Dhootha and Thiruchitrambalam. The actress is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Demonte Colony 2, slated to grace the theatres on August 15.
